Why it matters
A flyer is a list of prices. It is not a plan.
The traditional way to use a grocery flyer is to skim it, notice three or four things that look cheap, and then shop more or less the way you were always going to. The savings are real but small, because the flyer never connects to what you were planning to cook.
Deal Dish inverts that. It reads the week’s prices at your store first, then proposes meals built out of the discounted ingredients — reusing the same sale items across several dinners so the $2.99 chicken you bought because it was cheap does not become the $2.99 chicken that went off in the fridge. The shopping list falls out of the meal plan automatically, already grouped by aisle.
Loblaw banners
No Frills, Loblaws, Superstore and family
Canada’s largest grocer runs discount, conventional, warehouse and small-format banners that all share the PC Optimum program but rarely share a price.
Empire / Sobeys banners
Sobeys, Safeway, FreshCo, Foodland and Thrifty Foods
Empire’s banners anchor the Scene+ grocery program, where a points multiplier can quietly beat a straight percentage discount.
Metro banners
Metro, Food Basics and Super C
Strongest across Ontario and Québec, with the discount banners going head-to-head against No Frills and Maxi week after week.
FAQ
Flyer questions
Which Canadian grocery flyers does Deal Dish track?
All 21 of them: No Frills, Loblaws, Real Canadian Superstore, Atlantic Superstore, Maxi, Provigo, Fortinos, Zehrs, Valu-mart, Wholesale Club, Your Independent Grocer, Independent City Market, Dominion, Sobeys, Safeway, FreshCo, Foodland, Thrifty Foods, Metro, Food Basics, Super C — 2,513 individual store locations across 12 provinces and territories.
When do Canadian grocery flyers come out?
Almost every major Canadian grocery banner runs a Thursday-to-Wednesday flyer cycle. New prices go live Thursday morning and expire the following Wednesday night, which is why Deal Dish refreshes its whole catalogue every Thursday.
How is this different from Flipp or Reebee?
Flipp and Reebee are flyer browsers — they show you a digital copy of the paper flyer and stop there. Deal Dish starts where they end: it reads the prices, then builds the recipes, the week of meals, and the aisle-sorted shopping list around what is actually discounted, and flags unit prices so a big-looking sale on a small package does not fool you.
Can I compare the same item across two stores?
Yes. When two banners feature the same ingredient in the same week, Deal Dish compares them on price per unit rather than on sticker price. Pro unlocks multi-store meal planning, so a single week of meals can be split across whichever stores are genuinely cheapest.
Is Deal Dish free?
Yes. Flyer deals, recipes, meal planning, shopping lists, and the barcode scanner are free. Deal Dish Pro is $3.99/month or $34.99/year CAD and lifts the free-tier caps.
